Santa Cruz Harvest Center
Santa Cruz Harvest Center is a multi-cultural, non-denominational Christian church located in the Santa Cruz/Kroeger Lane neighborhood in southwest Tucson. The majority of the congregation are those who were at one time homeless. With the help of other ministries such as the Gospel Rescue Mission and the Salvation Army, they have had success working with those on the road to recovery.
The mission of the Santa Cruz Harvest Center is to work with the outcast of society - the homeless, those who are addicted to drugs and alcohol, gang members, as well as their families and children. Through their children's and teen ministries, they help at-risk children.
The Center is committed to making a positive impact upon the city of Tucson by creating a worship center in which all are welcome, and a place where all individuals and families can grow and flourish in faith and discover God's plan for their lives. This is a place for lives to be restored and rebuilt through Jesus Christ.
Pastors Dennis and Mary Barreras have a well known, successful background in rehabilitation and work with the Gospel Rescue Mission's homeless men's, women's and children's shelters. They are involved in the anti-meth drug problem in Tucson. Their ministry also includes annual Thanksgiving and Christmas street banquets where over 1,000 individuals are served, and a yearly Kid's Camp to Mt. Lemmon for 70 inner-city children, many of whom have never been outside of south Tucson.
Construction of a new church building with four classrooms and two bathrooms is underway. The funds available to realize the Center's vision are very limited due to the financial hardship or distress of the people served. Of particular importance are donations of building materials to enable the Santa Cruz Harvest Center to significantly contribute to the community through the completion of this new church.
